Description
In the Beginning was commissioned by the DC. Maryland, Virginia (DMV) Percussion Academy in 2018. The work was premiered by the DMV Percussion Academy June 28, 2018 in Hyattsville Maryland, Don Johns, DMV Academy Founder, Director. The work is composed for nine players. Grade level 3-4 due to changes in meters, Quarter note triplets, improvisation in the final repeated four/four section, brush work and dynamic contrasts. Improvisation is optional for the snare drum and concert tom players by adding a third pass to the repeat section (improv during second pass four measures for each player).
