Three Solos for Timpani. Composed by Don Johns
The three compositions are written as separate solos. Although they can be played together Ambition followed by Vision or all three solos as a suite. Getting Started is a Grade level 1 solo, that is written for two drums. Ideal first solo for the beginning timpanist. Ambition is a short Grade level 2 work that utilizes three drums, sixteenth notes and dotted eighth rhythms. It has a moderate tempo and contrasting dynamics. Vision is a Grade 3 composition written for Four Timpani. The work is up tempo. The performer must execute tied rhythms, dotted eight note and sixteenth note passages respectively.
